Home / German Beer Styles / Dortmunder Export
These are bottom fermented lagers that appeared sometime in the nineteenth century. The appearance is clear and pale golden. The taste is mild and clean, with a firm body and often a delightful biscuity taste. They don't have the same bitter hop flavour or fragrant hop nose of a Pilsner and have a drier taste.
Brewed around Dortmund, obviously. They have lost out to Pilsners and seem to have a less sophisticated image, but they make a nice change from the over popular pilsner style.
You can find tasting notes and instructions about how to brew Dortmunder Export from the Brewer's Handbook.
