Ship & Mitre, 133 Dale Street, Liverpool L2 2JH. [map] Tel: 0151 236 0859. Thanks to Carl Triggs for pointing out that this pub does Erdinger Weissbier, Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel and Dortmunder Union on draught. If the list of German beers on their website is correct, this is the most astonishing range I have seen in a pub anywhere. Beers currently listed include Andechs Spezial Hell, Augustiner Edelstoff, Augustiner Weissbier, Dortmunder Union Export, Franziskaner Hefe Weißbier, Franziskaner Heffe Weißbier Dunkel, Früh Kölsch, Hacker-Pschorr Hubertus Bock, Herforder Pils, Hofbräu Original München, Hofbräu Dunkel Gold Premium, Küppers Kölsch, Jever Pilsner, Löwenbräu Triumphator, Paulaner Hefe Weißbier Dunkel, Paulaner Salvator, Schlenkerla Rauchbier, Schneider Aventinus and Veltins Pilsener. Now, that's a hell of a list! As if this were not enough, they also have 9 cask ales and 29 Belgian beers. Impressive indeed. Also listed in listed in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide 2001. Read other reviews at: http://www.dbolan.demon.co.uk/ship.htm and http://www.theaa.com/pubs/104770.html.
Doctor Duncan's, St Johns Lane, Queens Square, Liverpool L1 1HF [map]. Tel: 0151 7095100. Dave Icke reports: "They had a German beer festival 21st - 27th May which I suspect will be repeated. Fiona the manageress quoted that she had never shifted so much beer in one week and is looking to put in more storage for German beer! The beer festival consisted of a range of around 30 bottled beers and 5 draught beers of varying styles, Kolsch, Alt, Bock, Vollbier, etc.The regular beers are Hopf Weiss on draught together with Schlenkerla, Fruh, Schneider and Hopf in bottles." The pub is also listed in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide 2001 and is the local CAMRA Pub of the Year. Unsurprising, as they have a good range of real ales including four guests and a "classic Victorian tiled room". Includes non smoking family room. Part of the Cains brewery chain.
Thomas Rigbypublic house in Dale Street, Liverpool: "PB" reports that it "serves a good range of German bottled bier and Erdinger on tap and bottle and is a nice pub for ambience and food".
Club 57, Hamilton Square, Birkenhead. Carl Triggs reports that they have Hopf weisse on tap, an excellent range of belgians and great jazz/blues music.
If you know of anywhere that I've missed (and there must be many), please email me.
