The Evening Star (pub), 55-56, Surrey Street, Brighton BN1 3PB, www.eveningstarbrighton.co.uk [map]. A nice, relaxed pub owned by the Dark Star Brewery, with about 12 German bottled beers (including, when I visited, Rauchbiers), as well as a range of Belgian ales and the Dark Star Brewery's excellent range of cask ales. Well worth a visit when in Brighton. Can get a bit crowded, as it's so popular. [added 2007]
Trafalgar Wines (Off licence), 23 Trafalgar Street, Brighton BN1 4EQ [map]. Tel: (01273) 683325. A small, independent off licence where I found EKU 28, Erdinger Weissbier Dunkel, Linden Premium and Bucher Organic Öko-Bier as well as a good range of Belgian and British ales. [added 2001]
Southover Wines (Off licence), 80-81 Southover Street, Brighton BN2 2UE [map]. Tel: (01273) 600402. A small, independent off licence. A good range of Belgian and French beers, but only one German when I visited -- Maisel's Weisse. [added 2001]
If you know of anywhere that I've missed (and there must be many), please email me.
